UPDATED BABY TIPS, USEFUL PRODUCTS AND MORE!!

Baby Shower - Tips For A Successful Baby Shower

Baby showers are shifting from the traditional to the modern fun oriented and realistic baby showers. Whatever it is, the main purpose for holding a baby shower is to celebrate the occasion also to help the expectant couple by giving them baby gifts.

The main concern while planning a baby shower is deciding who should be the hostess. The traditional rule suggests that close relatives should not host the occasion as this would like they are simply expecting gifts. For modern baby showers, anyone can plan and host it. This includes, friends, family and even co-workers.

There is always the question whether the mom-to-be can have more that one shower and the answers is yes, you can have more that one. However, it would be wise to note what the previous shower theme was as you do not want to repeat the same theme at each party. Also, try to find out what baby shower gifts were given to avoid any duplication.

Below are some quick baby shower tips for a successful party: -

1) Send out invites around 3-4 weeks in advance to the guests who live nearby. For long distance guests, send out the invites 4-6 weeks ahead. Do include a small map to the place as you do not want your guests to get lost on the way.

2) Greet all guests as they arrive at the door as this shows how much you care for them. Provide name tags so that everyone can identify each other easily. Introduce the baby shower guests to one another and sit people who know each other together or have something in common.

3) Incorporate some quick and simple games for the baby shower guests as an ice breaker. If you have ample space, provide tables for your guests to sit and eat if a meal is planned. Eating with their plate on their lap is a definite no-no.

4) Try to place the gifts at a specific location and it is appreciated to bring the gifts to the mom-to-be as she opens gifts. The expectant mother should not carry anything, especially bulky items. Around the time of the baby shower, she is likely to feel weak. Note and write down which baby shower guest gave which gift. This will come in handy, when it comes to sending out thank you cards.

5) Ensure you have enough baby shower party favors on hand. Remember more is better that none! Get the party started on time and keep things moving at a good pace. You will be surprised how time flies during the party. Walk your guests to the door as they leave and thank them for coming to the baby shower. Everyone feels special and likes given due attention.

6) If you are hosting the party, show the utmost responsibility and carefulness. A well planned baby shower party would be appreciated by all your guests. When serving food, serve the expectant mother and then your baby shower guests. You as the hostess should serve yourself last.

Choosing the Gender of Your Child

Most parents will tell you that the gender of their unborn child does not matter to them as long as the child is born healthy. But there are parents who truly desire to have a child of a particular gender. There can be many reasons that parents want to choose the gender of their child.
Some parents want to conceive a child of one sex based on the gender of the children that they already have. A family that already has one girl may want to have another so that they can share a bedroom or pass down clothes. Or they may want to have a boy so that they can have one child of each gender.
Parents may select a gender based on the health history of the family. If there is a history of a sex-linked genetic disorder, such as hemophilia or Duchenne muscular dystrophy, then they may wish to have a child of the protected gender. In the case of hemophilia, parents would want to have girls because hemophilia is an x-linked recessive disorder.
Some parents want to have a boy because they have heard that raising boys is easier, or they have good experiences with boys in their families or bad experiences with girls in their past. Parents often want to conceive baby girls for the exact opposite reasons. The truth is, every child is different, no matter their gender. Parents who have children of the same gender will tell you that the children were not the same.
Gender selection has raised some controversy. Some people do not think that anyone should use any method to try to conceive a baby of a chosen sex because it is tampering with nature. Others are concerned that choosing the gender of a child is only the tip of the iceberg and that parents will start trying to conceive designer babies. Proponents of physician intervention based gender selection point out the benefits that have come with the technology, such as being able to avoid having a child affected with a genetic disorder.
Depending on the reasons for wanting to select the gender of their child, parents engage in various methods to try to achieve their goal. These can range from something as simple as eating a special diet, to the more complicated task of timing conception based on ovulation, to the very complicated sperm sorting or IVF procedure. Generally, the more complicated and expensive a method of gender selection is, the more accurate it will be.
